Summer into Autumn at Hiawassee River Trout Lodge

What fun times we’ve had so far this year! We’ve had great weather, delightful family reunions, beautiful weddings and many other group events at the pavilion and grounds.

So many old friends of the Trout Lodge return year after year to enjoy the beauty and tranquility, and this year was no exception. It’s been our pleasure meeting all of you as well as many new guests who ‘discovered’ the cabins for the first time this year. Some of these newbies have already been back to relax and enjoy more than one getaway this season!

Late spring ramped up, so to speak, with our own 2ndAnnual Ramp’n On The River Ramp Festival the end of April. This year Towns County Fire & Rescue crew was on hand to clean, cook and serve up the main course – ramps (mountain onions similar to leeks) taters and more.  If you missed it next year’s Fishing at the trout lodgefestival is already in the works…
The Trout Lodge is a perfect setting for family reunions and there have been one after another. One family may hold the record as this was their ninth year here. They will be back in 2012 to make it ten years in a row – talk about making memories! Other guests had weddings, celebrated anniversaries, low country boils, and so on. All our guests were enjoying the cabins, decks, fishing or tubing in the river or seeing the sights in the North Georgia Mountains.

Now, here comes autumn!  The air is cooler and random swatches of red, yellow and orange are peeking out here and there. By mid-October the mountains and hills will be a riot of fall colors and alive with leaf lookers.

Why not come early and take advantage of our “Back to Cool” September Special?
Sept. 12th- thru Sept. 29thStay Two Nights for $150.00

Ramp’n on the
River Festival

We’re excited to announce our 2nd Annual RAMP’N ON THE RIVER, ramp festival on April 30th, 2011 from 11 am – 5 pm in our pavilion. We’ll have food, live music (maybe some square dancing, too), corn hole, horseshoes and plenty of RAMPS. For those who are not familiar with ramps, a ramp belongs to the leek family and grows in certain areas of the mountains. Hope you will join us for an enjoyable and exciting day celebrating a local mountain cultural tradition.

Let’s go ramp’n!  WooHoo!
April 30th 2011 – 11:00 AM – 5:00 PM

We are offering a special weekday rate to our guests if you stay for 2 nights (Fri/Sat or Sat/Sun). Call us for details 706-896-7400 or mention “ramps” when making reservations on line at www.hiawasseecabins.com to get this deal. It’s just a couple of weeks away, so make your reservations soon!

Fishing at the
trout lodge

Here at the Hiawassee River Trout Lodge, we are stocked with trout and have already heard some pretty amazing fish tales from guests.

Stanley from Lawrenceville, said fishing was great last weekend at the Trout Lodge.  This was the prize of about 20 trout he reeled in that day. Not a bad day on the river, right Stanley?  Thanks for sharing!

Spring cleaning and ground maintenance are underway and cabin #9 is in  process of a beautiful makeover.

Last month we had our first Mountain Mardi Gras with Cajun style food , lots of decorations, DJ., dancing and, of course, beads! It was great fun and we hope to make it an annual event.

We’ll be working on our website for the next month or so. Hope to get new photos and update a few things. If you’ve been a guest here and have photos you’d like to share, please send them to us or post them on our blog. We’re also working on a Facebook page and will send more information later.

Hope your year is off to a wonderful start. We’re looking forward to another great season at the cabins.

Your Cabin Crew,
Susan, Sheila & Scotty`

Ride To Remember

Friday, September 17, 2010

This event was last weekend. We had about 500 motor cycles come from Athens.
It was their annual ride to remember the people that died in 9-11 and the firefighters that sacrificed their lives.
The event was sponsored by Cycle World and they had cooks come in the night before and prepare a great lunch for them, complete with music by an Athens group called The Honkeytonk Daredevils.
they oo’d and aah’d over each others bikes, sat by the river and soaked up the atmosphere of a beautiful day!
The extra special bike that was here belonged to Royce Horton, a captain at Gwinnett County Fire Department. After 9-11, he had his bike painted with pictures of the fire, towers coming down, exhausted firefighters, etc. as a tribute to the fallen firefighters.

This little guy, Beau, had a great time at the reunion. He got lots of attention, loved the music, and even had a friend that brought him ice cubes so he wouldn’t be thirsty!
